RROD repaired console still working
Recently, I got together with some friends to battle in some Halo 3: ODST. We had 8 players on four televisions with four 360′s. It was major carnage. I really enjoy gaming with my friends. I don’t know what I would do without my Xbox 360. I used a console that I fixed over a year ago that had the RROD (or 3-red-light-error). It has been working flawlessly ever since I used the repair kit to perform the x-clamp fix. We played for six hours straight with no issues. As a matter of fact, some of the other new consoles were having problems. My console never even had a glitch. Don’t let your Halo 3: ODST experience be ruined by a faulty console. Visit www.xbox360fixit.com for free instructions and buy a repair kit cheaper than if you went to the hardware store.

All right its finally happened, your Xbox 360 died on you and now all you get are the 3 flashing red lights. What do you do? Just follow these step by step instructions and its easily fixed.
1. Unplug the power and AV cables and open your console. Do not forget to unplug the console…seriously.
2. Disconnect your DVD drive and remove it from the chassis.
3. Disconnect and remove your fan and fan shroud from the chassis.
4. Lift out your circuit board from the chassis.
5. Remove the x-clamps.
6. Remove your heat sinks, the studs from the heat sinks and clean the thermal paste off of the CPU, GPU and heat sinks.
7. Put thermal paste on CPU and GPU.
8. Put the x-clamp kit screws and washers (these replace the x-clamps and studs) into the circuit board.
9. Screw the heat sinks in place with the x-clamp kit screws.
10. Put the circuit board back into the chassis.

Reconnect the power and the AV cables. Turn on the Xbox 360 for 15 minutes and let it overheat. After 15 minutes turn the console off and let it cool down for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes turn the unit back on and you should be rewarded with green lights.

Xbox 360 RROD – Problem and Repair of Xbox 360 RROD
It’s a common problem with the Xbox 360 console. You turn the power on and get 3 red lights around the power button. Two questions come to mind.
1) What causes it?
2) How do I fix it?
I’ll begin with the first question. It all starts with the lack of cooling efficiency in the Xbox 360 design. The components are compacted in the case too tight to allow for proper cooling, specifically the GPU processor. Over time, the continuous heat actually cracks the solder joints where the processor pins connect to the circuit board. It causes a hardware failure and will no longer function. The Xbox 360 is basically a computer geared toward gaming. Compare your computer’s cooling system to the Xbox 360′s, and you’ll see the deficiency.
Now for the second question; this problem is so common among the Xbox 360 that there are several suggestions flying around the Internet for fixing the 3-red-light error. First, Microsoft is still providing a warranty for the 3-red-light error for three years after purchase. Do not attempt any fix if your Xbox 360 is still within the warranty period. If it isn’t within the warranty period there is one method that by far outweighs all the others. It is the “x-clamp fix”.
This method actually entails disassembling the console and modifying the cooling system. The x-clamps are removed and replaced with bolts and washers. New thermal paste is applied. This increases the cooling efficiency of the heatsink. The console is then overheated to heat the solder joints to re-establish the connection. I have researched and experimented with the various “x-clamp fix” methods. The x-clamp method is the one I recommend.
